FINDING CALM BEFORE BEDTIME

In today's busy world, our minds often stay switched on long after the day has ended. Evening yoga offers a gentle, grounding way to unwind - to shift from "doing" to "being." At Roots & Reeds in Burton, my slower evening yoga classes are designed to help you release tension, quiet your mind, and prepare your body for deep, restful sleep.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND MOVEMENT & SLEEP

When we move slowly and with intention, out nervous system begins to regulate. Gentle yoga poses - like supported forward folds or reclining twists - tell your body it's safe to relax. Combined with breathwork and mindful awareness, this activates the parasympathetic nervous system (your body's "rest and digest" mode), helping you to fall asleep more easily and sleep more deeply.

WHAT AN EVENING YOGA SESSION LOOKS LIKE

Evening yoga isn't about working up a sweat. It's about releasing the day. Classes often begin with slow stretching and mindful breathing before moving into supported postures that calm the mind and ease muscle tension. You'll leave feeling lighter, softer, and ready to drift into rest.

BUILD YOUR BEDTIME ROUTINE

Creating a regular evening yoga routine can help your body learn when it's time to unwind. Whether it's in the studio or at home, just 15-30 minutes of gentle movement can make a real difference.
